July 2006

I would very much like to inherit the earth
I hunger after righteousness
but my hunger knows no bounds
It becomes me in dark bedrooms
It poisons all my friends
It paints irreverent pictures of well respected men
And posts them around town
I am meek and voracious
And I would like to inherit the world
I mortify the flesh
But it just comes back again, stronger than before
It creeps away in intervals and chases after girls
So I have made allowances
For the skill of hell-bound fingers
I have fallen like a martyr into many layered sheets
And hungered till it hurt
But I would still like to be considered
When it comes to the inheritance of earth
